Why does Viridian support the Monkey Sanctuary?

Monday July 20, 2015

Why Viridian Nutrition supports the Monkey Sanctuary.
The Monkey Sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall, funded by the Wild Futures charity, cares for three species of monkey rescued from the UK or international primate pet trades.
Unbelievably, it is legal to own a primate in the UK – even a gorilla in theory, but most people have no idea how to care for such an animal and often mistreat and neglect these intelligent wild creatures. A baby primate appeals to humans, but they do not just need love and attention, they need monkey friends and relatives to keep mentally and physically healthy. The best place for wild animals is in the wild, but these ex-pets would not survive back in the habitats they came from.
Many of the residents at The Monkey Sanctuary were taken from their mothers in the wild, or from breeders as babies, and they have no survival skills suitable for a wild environment. The Monkey Sanctuary finds these poor animals often is dire circumstances, nurses them back to health and cares for them to the end of their days. These animals cannot be released into the wild as they have no natural survival skills.
Here is a note from the Monkey Sanctuary to Viridian:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for Viridian's fantastic support of our work.

"As you know, we regularly receive requests about monkeys in need, but we are simply unable to help them all due to lack of funding. The last phone call we took was to assist in the rescue of a 6 year old marmoset monkey, as his owner had moved overseas and no longer wanted him. He was living in a birdcage, in a warehouse, with just a scrap of cloth on the floor of the cage to sleep on. He was all alone and fed an inappropriate diet of banana custard.

"We quickly worked with our contacts to make sure he is now safe, but cases like this one illustrate why support is more vital than ever, so your help is so much appreciated and really does make a difference to our work."

Viridian Nutrition has donated more than £9000 worth of High Five multivitamins, vitamin D, Folic Acid, Vitamin C and Joint Omega 3 Oil as requested by the Monkey Sanctuary since 2007.
The Monkey Sanctuary is a project of the charity Wild Futures.
The Viridian Nutrition Charity Donation Programme supports a wide range of children's, environmental and other charities. The beneficiary charities are chosen each year by a voting form sent to all the Viridian health store stockists in the UK and Ireland. For more information visit CHARITY.
