Viridian Nutrition Vitamin D3 proved effective - clinical trial

Supplementing with Viridian vitamin D3 has been shown to significantly increase vitamin D in the body.

Viridian Nutrition’s Vitamin D3 capsules have recently been used in a human clinical trial at the University of Surrey with an outcome showing that supplementation with Viridian Nutrition’s Vitamin D3 supplement is an effective strategy to significantly raise vitamin D concentrations.

This study ran two parallel randomized controlled trials (RCT) on 135 Brazilian women based in the UK and Brazil. Oral vitamin D supplementation from Viridian Nutrition of 15µg daily for 12 weeks was significantly effective compared to placebo at raising vitamin D levels over winter, regardless of location and therefore the amount of sunlight.

Yet to be published, the study was conducted by M. Mendes at the University of Surrey alongside Dr. Susan Langham-New who is a Professor in Human Nutrition and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN).

A well-known authority in vitamin D, Dr. Susan Langham-New was part of the SACN Vitamin D Working Group which published the new UK Vitamin D Requirements in 2016.

Having sufficient levels of vitamin D in the body is vital

Vitamin D plays an important role in many areas of health. Firstly, Vitamin D is essential for keeping bones1 and muscles2 healthy. Vitamin D status has also been closely linked to cardiovascular health3 and has strong associations with cognitive wellbeing4

Importantly, Vitamin D is also involved with supporting the immune system with evidence to suggest that vitamin D may help in prevention of colds and flu viruses5.

Vitamin D deficiency is currently a major global public health issue with increasing prevalence. The main source of vitamin D is through the action of UV from the sun onto our skin. Therefore, with many people experiencing reduced access to sunlight while staying at home, Public Health England has re-issued its recommendation for vitamin D supplementation, advising that due to lockdown, everyone should now consider taking Vitamin D supplements throughout spring and summer as well as autumn and winter.
