Health store raises money for animal welfare charity

Well done to Meanwell Wholefoods health store in Ennis, Ireland, who raised a tremendous €300 for local charity Burren Animal Welfare.

The money was collected from ticket sales sold at an educational fermentation workshop held in the health stores vegan cafe Peckish on Monday 9th April.

It was standing room only with over 60 people attending the Fermentation for Social and Political Change led by food activist, blogger and bodyworker Darren Ollerton.

The immune system is dependent on a healthy gut and fermented foods contain a wide range of good bacteria that can improve digestive health.

Darren’s engaging talk and demonstration covered current research and insights into food, health and healing to show how the simple act of fermenting in the home kitchen can not only benefit ourselves personally but reverberate into wider social, political and environmental realms.

Local charity Burren Animal Welfare attended the workshop. The charity said: “It’s lovely when a local business thinks about us. It means we know they have our backs. It also means we can share our cause with a different audience. A huge thank you to the team at Meanwell Wholefoods, in Ennis, for inviting us to benefit from their fermentation workshop. Louise had an educating and fun evening at Peckish vegan cafe, and gratefully accepted €300 from ticket sales. The donation will go directly to our vets in Gort.”
