Viridian’s Pregnancy Complex and Pregnancy Omega Oil

Viridian Pregnancy Complex

Viridian’s Pregnancy Complex is designed to help support mother and baby throughout pregnancy and lactation. At a time where there is increased need for specific nutrients, supplementation of essential micronutrients during pregnancy has shown to benefit both mother and baby and help reduce the incidence of low birth weights1

Key Features

Vitamin C - There is a significant increase in the utilization of vitamin C from tissue stores during pregnancy, with focus on the third trimester when the fetus creates its own reserve of the nutrient prior to birth. Low vitamin C levels have been associated with poorer pregnancy outcomes so maintaining optimal levels throughout pregnancy is important2.

Iron - On average, an additional 6mg a day of iron needs to be absorbed during pregnancy in order to produce more hemoglobin for fetal requirement and oxygen delivery. The Pregnancy Complex provides 20mg per two capsules, in Bisglycinate form. This form of iron has shown in to be four times more absorbable than other commonly prescribed forms of iron3.

As vitamin C is the main promotor of iron absorption, levels need to be adequate to prevent iron deficiency anaemia.

Zinc - Zinc is needed for foetal cognitive development. Low zinc levels have been associated with low-birth weight. Zinc supplementation should be included in maternal supplements given during pregnancy in populations at risk for zinc deficiency4. Copper is added to the formula as it helps zinc absorption.

Folic Acid and B Vitamins

Folate (vitamin B9) is an umbrella term for the natural compounds and metabolites, which includes folic acid. Public Health England(PHE) recommendation of 400mcg daily of folic acid 12 weeks preconception and at least 12 weeks post conception5 to help prevent against Neural Tube Defects (NTD) and support the development of a healthy foetus.

Two capsules of Viridian’s Pregnancy Complex are parallel to PHE and National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) recommendation of 400ug of folic acid per day before pregnancy as well as during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

B vitamins, especially B6 and B12, have increased demand during pregnancy.
Vitamin B12- needed during pregnancy when there is rapid cell growth. Vitamin B12 is a vital component needed for synthesis of DNA, cysteine, methionine and transfer of RNA.

Vitamin B6- a daily supplement of 2mg of vitamin B6 provides the adequacy of maternal and neonatal vitamin B6 status for birth. Additionally, B6 supplementation has proved effective in reducing the severity of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy6.

Pregnancy Omega Oil

Viridian’s Pregnancy Omega Oil has been formulated to support pregnancy and lactation. The addition of essential fatty acids (EFA’s) are of benefit to the health and maintenance of cellular integrity and membrane fluidity.

 - DHA- an omega-3 fatty acid needed for baby brain development. During pregnancy, the mother will supply increasing amounts of DHA to support fetal development. Viridian’s DHA is derived from the oceanic algae Schizochytrium, which is naturally rich in the omega-3 fatty acid.

With concerns for mercury toxicity with overconsumption of certain fish that contain high levels of DHA7, Viridian’s vegan DHA source from marine algae is suitable for omnivores as well as those following a vegan diet, providing 273mg per 15ml.

 - Flax-seed Oil - Viridian’s flax-seed oil is pressed locally in the UK, at first press, ensuring the highest level of purity.

 - Hemp-Seed Oil - The hemp-seed oil in Viridian’s pregnancy oil contains 80% essential fatty acids, the perfect balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

 - Cranberry-seed Oil - Cranberry seeds are found to contain a higher level of tocotrienols, which are powerful antioxidants.
