How to make a Green Smoothie
Green smoothies are a great way to start your day. Greens contain antioxidants, which help neutralise free radicals – molecules responsible for ageing! They are also packed full of calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, zinc and vitamins A, C, E and K.
Find these ingredients in your local specialist health food store
1. Start with your liquid base. Coconut water is a good base as it contains natural electrolytes to help hydrate. You can also use milk, or your choice of dairy-free milk. Just avoid fruit juice as it's high in sugar. I use about a glass but you can adjust to get your desired consistency.
2. Add your greens. I use spinach or kale. I then add a spoonful of green powder such as Viridian Organic Soul Food Greens Powder to boost the nutrient content.
3. A little fruit adds sweetness, fibre and additional nutrients. An apple or a handful of frozen berries works well.
4. Throw in some healthy fats. I add ½ an avocado, 1 tablespoon of Viridian Organic Raw Coconut Oil and 1 tablespoon of chia seeds. You could also add nut butters or ground seeds like flaxseeds.
Blend it all together. I prefer to blend rather than juice vegetables and fruit as it preserves the fibre, which supports digestion. A super-healthy, anti-ageing, immune boosting start to your day.
